Established in 1927, it was the first brainchild of the congregation’s founder, Rev. Fr. Varghese Payyappilly, driven by his vision to care for the abandoned elderly irrespective of caste, creed, or gender.

Today, over 100 residents find solace within the home’s walls, their days filled with prayer, shared activities, and the warmth of companionship. The dedicated Sisters tirelessly shower them with kindness and unwavering commitment, ensuring their physical and emotional well-being. ANANDHABHAVAN

A Sanctuary for Needy Elderly Women in Kodanadu
 

Nestled amidst the verdant hills of Kurinjikodu in Kodanadu, Kerala, stands Anandhabhavan, a haven of hope and care for elderly women. Established in 1977 on land donated by Rev. Fr. Joseph Pulikkanal, the center was initially envisioned as a childcare facility for underprivileged children. However, circumstances led the dedicated Sisters of the Destitute to transform it into a sanctuary for poor, neglected, and unwanted senior women on September 1st, 1991.

Since then, Anandhabhavan has served as a beacon of compassion, providing these women with a safe haven, warm meals, and access to basic necessities. Surrounded by the serenity of nature and the unwavering support of the Sisters, the residents of Anandhabhavan find solace, companionship, and a renewed sense of dignity in their golden years. The center stands as a testament to the tireless efforts of the Sisters and the unwavering spirit of hope that empowers them to uplift those in need.

BETHZAITHA

Empowering Girls with Disabilities in Thevara
 

In the heart of Konthuruthy, Thevara, stands Bethsaida, a beacon of hope for young girls facing physical challenges. Established in 1990, it fulfills a long-held dream of the Sisters of the Destitute congregation, founded by Servant of God Fr. Varghese Payyapilly. This haven specifically empowers girls from underprivileged families, transcending barriers of caste, creed, and religion.

Bethsaida goes beyond providing a safe haven, offering comprehensive rehabilitation and occupational training opportunities. Tailored programs address individual needs, fostering independence and equipping girls with valuable skills for future employment. Surrounded by the unwavering support of the Sisters and a community of peers, the girls at Bethsaida discover their strengths, build confidence, and chart their own paths towards a brighter future. More than just a rehabilitation center, Bethsaida empowers young women to rise above their limitations and embrace life with dignity and purpose.

GOOD HOPE

A Beacon of Hope for the Abandoned Elderly

 

Rising from the ashes of a beggar eradication program in Cochin city, Good Hope stands as a testament to the unwavering compassion of the Sisters of the Destitute. In 1990, at the request of District Collector Mr. Rajan, the Sisters took on the daunting challenge of caring for abandoned elderly individuals who had nowhere else to turn. Good Hope became a haven for these forgotten souls, offering them shelter, nourishment, and most importantly, a sense of belonging. Age, caste, nationality – none were barriers to receiving the Sisters’ loving care. Within the walls of Good Hope, residents find solace in companionship, dignity in daily routines, and hope for a brighter future.

More than just a shelter, Good Hope is a community built on respect and compassion. It is a living testament to the power of selflessness and the transformative impact of love, reminding us that even the most forgotten deserve a chance to experience warmth, dignity, and a sense of belonging in their twilight years.

HOME FOR THE AGED AND DESTITUTE -PERUMANOOR

Sheltering the Needy Since 1936

Standing tall in Perumanoor, the Home for the Aged and Destitute embodies the compassionate spirit of its founder, Servant of God Fr. Varghese Payyappilly. Born out of the desire to honor the Silver Jubilee of Archbishop Mar Augustine Kandathil’s ordination in 1936, the center officially opened its doors in 1937, inaugurated by Diwan of Cochin, Mr. R.K Shanmugham Shetty.

Nestled in Fr. Payyappilly’s birthplace, the Home serves as a beacon of hope for both men and women in need. Drawing inspiration from Christ’s love, it provides shelter, care, and support to the destitute, elderly, and abandoned, transcending the boundaries of gender, caste, and creed.

For over eight decades, the Home has offered a haven of refuge, ensuring its residents receive essential services, companionship, and a renewed sense of dignity in their later years. Today, it stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of compassion and service that continues to touch the lives of countless individuals.

KARUNABHAVAN​

A Haven of Divine Mercy in Mala
 

Nestled amidst the serenity of Mala in Chalakkudy, Thrissur, Kerala, Karunabhavan stands as a radiant expression of divine mercy. Established in 1989 under the guidance of Bishop Mar James Pazhayattil, this haven was envisioned to provide care and comfort to abandoned men and women in the locality. Karunabhavan began its journey with 20 women and 5 men, housed within the existing branch house of the Sisters of the Destitute in Mala. From its inception, the institution has been embraced by the community, receiving unwavering support from Forane vicars, parishioners, and generous individuals surrounding the area.

Driven by love and compassion, Karunabhavan offers a sanctuary for those in need. It provides not only essential services like shelter and nourishment but also fosters a sense of belonging and dignity for its residents. The unwavering dedication of the Sisters and the collaborative spirit of the community ensure that Karunabhavan continues to be a beacon of hope and solace for those who seek its embrace.

KARUNALAYAM

A Sanctuary for the Forgotten in Their Final Journey

 

Established in 1971 as a loving tribute to Mon. George Vallyarumpath, Karunalayam serves as a haven for the most vulnerable – the dying destitute. Witnessing the heartbreaking plight of the abandoned and neglected on hospital corridors and streets, the Sisters of the Destitute were moved to offer them solace and dignity in their final days.

Karunalayam became a beacon of hope, rescuing individuals from unimaginable suffering. More than just a shelter, it provides loving care, nourishing meals, and a compassionate presence. Guided by the Sisters’ unwavering dedication, residents find comfort in shared prayers, gentle companionship, and the assurance of a dignified send-off.

This institution transcends the boundaries of caste, creed, and family ties, embracing all who arrive at its doorstep seeking refuge. It embodies the very essence of compassion, offering peace and hope in the face of life’s end. SNEHASADAN

Santhi Sadan Psycho-Social Rehabilitation Centre, located in Nilambur, has started to provide compassionate care and support to individuals with mental health conditions and psychosocial disabilities. Established in 2023, with a vision to create a safe and nurturing environment for individuals to heal, recover, and reintegrate into society. Santhi Sadan has on it’s budding stage has evolved, offering a range of services including counseling, therapy, vocational training, and community-based rehabilitation programs. With a team of dedicated professionals and a commitment to excellence, the centre has made a significant impact in the lives of countless individuals and families, empowering them to lead fulfilling and meaningful lives.

NIRMALA BHAVAN

Nirmala Bhavan is a non profit organization managing the home for the aged at Thattampady, North Paravur. It has completed 45 years of glorious services. This is a charitable institution that receive the aged women, 60 years of age and above.

SAMARITAN BHAVAN

A Beacon of Compassion for Manaathvadi’s Elderly
 

Standing as a testament to the 25th anniversary of the Manaathvadi diocese, Samaritan Bhavan serves as a beacon of hope and care for the region’s elderly. Established in 2002, it transcends its role as a mere shelter, offering solace and support to those burdened by poverty, ill health, and unwanted neglect. Within its walls, the haven welcomes poor and disadvantaged elders, providing them with essential care, nourishment, and a sense of belonging. Established in 2003, this haven recognizes the growing challenges of the modern world that can trigger emotional distress and even suicidal tendencies.

Santhi Nilayam offers a safe and nurturing environment specifically designed for women under 40 facing mental health concerns. The dedicated team, including Sisters of the Destitute, provides holistic care that addresses not only medical needs but also emotional well-being and spiritual growth. The center understands that even simple life events can cause significant stress, and they strive to equip residents with coping mechanisms and resilience to navigate life’s challenges.

Established in 1990, this registered charitable institution serves as a sanctuary of support for patients transitioning through life’s final chapter. Santhinikethan embraces patients from nearby healthcare facilities, including the Amala Cancer Centre, Medical College, Jubilee Mission Hospital, and District Hospital. Here, they find not just medical care but also a haven of comfort and care. Warm accommodation, nourishing meals, and gentle spiritual guidance soothe their physical and emotional needs.

This haven, the first Destitute Home of the Mananthavady diocese, was established on September 27th, 1996, inspired by the spirit of St. Vincent de Paul.

Beyond its picturesque location, Santhisadan embodies the united vision of the Sisters of the Destitute and the local parishioners. It offers a sanctuary for over 60 women, including those facing mental health challenges. Within its walls, residents find more than just shelter; they receive compassionate care, nourishing meals, and a sense of belonging in a supportive community.

The dedicated staff, guided by the Sisters’ in unwavering love, address both the physical and emotional needs of the residents. Tailored care plans, access to medical services, and opportunities for spiritual growth foster an environment conducive to healing and well-being. ST JOSEPH CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTRE OLLUR

Nestled in the heart of Ollur, St. Joseph Home stands as a haven of temporary support for women facing challenging circumstances. Established through the generous donation of Mr. Joseph & Mrs. Treasa Thekkedathu in 2009, it was blessed by His Grace Mar Jacob Thoomkuzhy. While originally envisioned as a permanent home for abandoned women, St. Joseph Home has evolved to address a broader range of needs. It provides women with access to essential care and accommodation during difficult times, offering a secure and supportive environment during their period of transition.

Whether facing financial hardship, personal crisis, or needing medical assistance, omen find compassionate care and understanding at St. Joseph Home. VIMALA TERMINAL CARE CENTRE

Compassionate Support in Life’s Final Journey

Nestled in the heart of Mysore, the Vimala Terminal Care Centre embodies the Sisters of the Destitute’s unwavering commitment to offering comfort and dignity in life’s final stages. Established in 2000 under the Mananthavady diocese, the center stands close to the Infant Jesus Basilica, a poignant reminder of the spiritual solace it seeks to provide. Though initially envisioned as a hospital, the center took a different path, aligning with the SD congregation’s core values of serving the destitute and vulnerable. Here, elderly individuals, cancer patients, and those living with HIV/AIDS find a haven of compassionate care during their most challenging times.

Beyond clinical care, Vimala offers a holistic approach to well-being. Residents receive nutritious meals, comfortable accommodation, and emotional support, fostering a sense of belonging and community. Spiritual guidance further helps them navigate their fears and find peace with their mortality. The dedicated staff, including healthcare professionals and Sisters, create a nurturing environment where laughter mingles with quiet moments of reflection.
